NUMBER 479

BENCHMARKS continued

With the light declining fast, M.C. and Benchmarker managed to record a shaky image of this one at the entrance to Mount Salus in Dalkey, and then departed with a hope that they might return ere long.

Below: The 'mark on Mount Salus Road.

Above: The entrance to Mount Salus with the 'mark - very indistinct in this shaky photo - on the bottom of the pillar at right.

Even further onwards and upwards - 17 feet to be exact - on the Vico Road in Dalkey is this one located at the bottom of the steps that lead up to Torca Road.

NUMBER 467

BENCHMARKS continued

Further up Vico Road on the same side as the last one and just beside the railway bridge is this one.

Below: A 'mark on Vico Road.

Above: On Vico Road looking east with Sorrento Terrace in the distance and the 'mark on the gate pillar at right. Dalkey looks so well in Summertime that Benchmarker would almost consider moving there and abandoning the small but perfectly formed mansion in Dublin 8.

NUMBER 466

BENCHMARKS continued

This one is really, really, really, really, really difficult to see in the photograph; and nearly as difficult to spot in meat space. M.C. was yet to adopt the chalk technique so it will have to be taken on trust. It's on Vico Road at the entrance to Sorrento Cottage.

Below: A 'mark on Vico Road.

Above: The entrance to Sorrento Cottage. The 'mark is on the unpainted gate pillar at left. Honest!

Just a few steps north from Atlanta and on the opposite side of Colliemore Road, at the bottom of a gate pillar at the entrance to Springfield House, is this one.

Below: A 'mark on Colliemore Road.

NUMBER 463

BENCHMARKS continued

Do not adjust your viewing device, and no matter what anyone tells you, this one is on Knock-Na-Cree Road and not on the Vico Road. Mea culpa from Benchmarker and gratitudo to M.C. for rescuing a critical situation.

Below: The 'mark on Knock-Na-Cree Road.

Above: Looking north on Knock-Na-Cree Road with the 'mark on the wall at right - on the middle one of the three well pointed blocks.

NUMBER 461

BENCHMARKS continued

This one, on a wall pillar about halfway along the north side of Victoria Road in Dalkey, is not marked on any map, leading to the conclusion that it may have been placed there as a result of architectural salvage at another location. Who knows?

Below: The 'mark on Victoria Road.

Above: On Victoria Road looking west with the 'mark at bottom right on the pillar.

NUMBER 460

BENCHMARKS continued

About halfway along Leslie Avenue in Dalkey, is this one; with the pavement creeping up to enfold it.

During that halcyon June afternoon in Dalkey, for M.C. and Benchmarker, Colliemore Road was the gift that just kept on giving. This one is near its junction with Victoria Road at the entrance to Victoria Lodge.

Above: On Colliemore Road looking south-east with the 'mark on the bottom of the gate pillar at right.

NUMBER 457

BENCHMARKS continued

Still in Dalkey and still on Colliemore Road, this one is on a gate pillar near to the Cliff Castle. It seems there has been a castle on this site for a long time though it's doubtful if any trace of the original remains.

Below: A 'mark on Colliemore Road near the Cliff Castle.

Above: On Colliemore Road looking south-east with the 'mark on the bottom of the gate pillar at left.

NUMBER 453

 BENCHMARKS continued

Buoyed by the early Summer success of the Navan campaign, M.C. and Benchmarker straight away launched into another joint venture to the village of Dalkey in County Dublin. The resultant photos were then filed on Benchmarker's computer under the title 'The Dalkey Achieve' (good, eh!).
The first one was found on Castle Street.
