The intention with this website is to locate at least 1,001 benchmark sites, or die in the attempt (no flowers please, house private). Photos of any benchmark sites found will be posted at intervals over the coming days, weeks, months, years, decades, centuries ... Like
the protean hide of some mythical sea monster, the mighty Corrib
churns neath this one. Supplied by M.C., 'tis on the north side of
William O'Brien Bridge in Galway City.

BENCHMARKS

This
one from M.C. is on the perimeter wall of Saint Patrick's Boys'
Primary School at the junction of Lombard Street and Bridge Street in
Galway City. It appears the wall was built from stones salvaged from
a building - Shamble Barracks - which formerly stood on the site of
the school. Apparently the benchmark stone that was on that building
was placed in the new wall close to its original location.

between the phone booths and the electricity distribution cabinet.

in Galway City but moving to Eyre Square, M.C. recorded this one,
with its clean chiselled lines, on the base of the railings that
front the Bank of Ireland building.
