NUMBER 646

BENCHMARKS continued

Night comes down and finds you alone
In a space and time of your own
Lost in dreams in a world full of shadows.

Down the street the neon light shines
Offering refuge and hope to the blind .......

With the mop-up in Killiney concluded, back in the city M.C. and Benchmarker stopped off on Ranelagh Road to record this one. It's on the west side, a little way south of the railway bridge.

NUMBER 522

BENCHMARKS continued

Clouded by the patina of old age, - it happens to us all - this one is somewhat indistinct. But for M.C. - who recorded it at the perimeter wall near the south-west corner of the Dominican Priory on Blessington Road in Tallaght in Dublin - and for Benchmarker, every benchmark is precious.

Below: The 'mark on the perimeter wall of the Dominican Priory in Tallaght.

NUMBER 510

BENCHMARKS continued

M.C. scythed a path through the sward surrounding the south-west corner of the complex that was formerly the Royal Hibernian Military School; later the T.B. hospital known as Saint Mary's; and now the Cara Cheshire Home, in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, to record this one.

Below: The 'mark on the perimeter wall of the Cara Cheshire Home, Phoenix Park.

Above: Is it an O'Connor, a Cezanne, a Van Gogh; or is it perhaps a Halford who is now perhaps working through the medium of colour? No, it's none of these. It's just a lovely, lovely picture by M.C. with the 'mark at bottom left.

NUMBER 497

BENCHMARKS continued

M.C. spotted this one on a gate pillar of an entrance - at the south-east corner - to Stillorgan Reservoir at Brewery Road in Dublin. In all his years in Dublin, Benchmarker has known of the existence of the Stillorgan Reservoir but has yet to clasp eyes on it.

NUMBER 455

BENCHMARKS continued

Culture Night inspired M.C. to kill two birds with one stone, namely, to visit the observatory at Dunsink and record the 'mark thereon. Both were achieved as well as attending a lecture entitled 'Seeing the Invisible'. An apt title as M.C. had to resort to the trusty stick of chalk to allow the 'mark to be properly seen by the camera.

Below: The 'mark on Dunskink Observatory.

Above: A view of the observatory as the light declines; within people listen to the lecture, while without a man teaches his daughter how to defy gravity. The 'mark is at top left of the steps.

The final 'back of the sofa' gem from M.C. And it's another brickie. It's located on Sydney Parade Station in Dublin.

Below: A 'mark on Clonskeagh Road.

Above: Clonskeagh Road looking towards Ashton's. The 'mark is on the brickwork just to the left of the red door. Benchmarker is much taken with the old cast-iron coal-hole cover. They don't make them like that anymore.

NUMBER 430

BENCHMARKS continued

Three of the 'marks recorded by M.C. on his late Spring safari, seem to have somehow fallen down the back of Benchmarker's sofa. Benchmarker hadn't noticed their loss but M.C. raised the alarm. A successful search resulted and we bring them to you now. The first is on Anglesea Bridge on Morehampton Road in Dublin.

Below: The 'mark on Anglesea Bridge.
