NUMBER 956

BENCHMARKS continued

This one in Edinburgh, Scotland, from Michael Byrne is on Saint John's Church at Lothian Road and Princes Street junction.

Below: A 'mark on Saint John's Church at Lothian Road and Princes Street junction, Edinburgh.

Above: Looking south with the 'mark at lower left. The word 'unique' is one that is often misused; but here is a situation where it totally, absolutely, utterly and completely appropriate. Michael Byrne was blessed to find it and writes “A bolt type, this is an amazingly well executed 'mark. A true ecclesiastical masterpiece, and one that has obviously taken a lot of time and skill to produce. The result is testament to the surveyor (or stonemason?) taking great pride in the finished product. Currently, it makes a fantastic wallpaper for my PC!”
