The intention with this website is to locate at least 1,001 benchmark sites, or die in the attempt (no flowers please, house private). Photos of any benchmark sites found will be posted at intervals over the coming days, weeks, months, years, decades, centuries ... Anyone who wishes to contribute can send photos and descriptions of any benchmarks they find and would like to have included here, to mfbourke@gmail.com See post Number 1 for a fuller description.

NUMBER 1,023

BENCHMARKS continued

The great days of the benchmark hunts may have drawn to a close, but Benchmarker still likes to travel prepared should an eventuality present itself. And so it was when visiting North Donegal recently on a different type of quest. And there the village of Ramelton has seen better times. These days when one contemplates the remains of what were once admirable buildings, sadly it's a somewhat pitiful sight. Bagging this one offered no consolation as Benchmarker and companion departed with a heavy heart.

Mike Campion sent this one. It's close to the Prime Meridian at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park in London.
