The intention with this website is to locate at least 1,001 benchmark sites, or die in the attempt (no flowers please, house private). Photos of any benchmark sites found will be posted at intervals over the coming days, weeks, months, years, decades, centuries ... Looking south with the 'mark at lower left. The word 'unique' is one
that is often misused; but here is a situation where it totally,
absolutely, utterly and completely appropriate. Michael Byrne was
blessed to find it and writes “A bolt type, this is an amazingly
well executed 'mark. A true ecclesiastical masterpiece, and one that
has obviously taken a lot of time and skill to produce. The result is
testament to the surveyor (or stonemason?) taking great pride in the
finished product. Currently, it makes a fantastic wallpaper for my
PC!”
