The intention with this website is to locate at least 1,001 benchmark sites, or die in the attempt (no flowers please, house private). Photos of any benchmark sites found will be posted at intervals over the coming days, weeks, months, years, decades, centuries ... Anyone who wishes to contribute can send photos and descriptions of any benchmarks they find and would like to have included here, to mfbourke@gmail.com See post Number 1 for a fuller description.

NUMBER 470

BENCHMARKS continued

About 100 yards further on up Vico Road from the steps shown in the previous post, the older maps show the boundary line that indicates we are leaving Dalkey and entering Killiney. This one is located in Killiney on the south side of the Vico Road at its junction with Victoria Road.

NUMBER 469

BENCHMARKS continued

Even further onwards and upwards - 17 feet to be exact - on the Vico Road in Dalkey is this one located at the bottom of the steps that lead up to Torca Road.

NUMBER 468

BENCHMARKS continued

Onwards and upwards on the Vico Road in Dalkey brings us to this one located on an entrance gate-pillar to three dwellings, namely San Elmo, The Cottage and Sorrentoville.

NUMBER 467

BENCHMARKS continued

Further up Vico Road on the same side as the last one and just beside the railway bridge is this one.

Below: A 'mark on Vico Road.

Above: On Vico Road looking east with Sorrento Terrace in the distance and the 'mark on the gate pillar at right. Dalkey looks so well in Summertime that Benchmarker would almost consider moving there and abandoning the small but perfectly formed mansion in Dublin 8.
